The Competition
The idea
The school competition 'Impact your Environment' is an initiative of the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission to find a new, memorable name for GMES. The new name has to be understood in all 25 EU Member States as well as in Norway and Switzerland without being translated.

Registration
Registration to the school competition is possible until the end of September 2006. Only those registrations made by teachers via this website will be taken into account. They will represent students attending in 2006-2007 the last two years of school before university.
Information material
After having registered to the school competition, teachers will receive an information kit beginning of the new school year. The information kit will contain a leaflet for teachers, a poster for the classroom and a CD-ROM with a film illustrating different services which will be part of GMES.
Competition contribution
Each class may submit one new name for GMES together with a maximum of 15 lines explaining the choice until 31 October 2006. The explanation should be written in English. (You may, if needed, involve the English teacher of your school: he/she may be part of the winning team!). The new name should be the result of class teamwork. Contributions can be sent to the European Commission Competition team via email info@gmes-competition.info.
Yes, but... what is there to win?
A jury composed of international experts will select the winning entry. The prize for the whole winning class and its teacher will be an unforgettable hot air-balloon ride over their own region.
